As Chloe’s and Sophie’s Special Ears Fund comes towards the end of their third year in North Wales, where they started in Flintshire and Wrexham, and recently expanded into Denbighshire, having achieved some incredible work outcomes with schools and in the community, brightening the lives of Deaf children and young people as well as the providing support for their families, enabling challenges to be overcome within education and everyday life, we are delighted to announce a new North Wales ‘Wish Granting Champion’ to work alongside existing Champion, Zeta Lloyd.
A huge welcome to Tom from all of us here at The Neumark Foundation and we will let Tom tell you about himself, and his motivations to move into this role.
“Hi, my name is Tom, and I’m the newest Wish Granting Champion at Chloe’s and Sophie’s Special Ear Fund for the Wrexham, Flintshire, and Denbighshire areas, working alongside Zeta. There’s a lot to learn but it’s been a great first month settling in and putting faces to names when meeting some of our CSSEF families at Plas Madoc Swimming recently.
I have a keen interest in British Sign Language and I have been learning BSL because I am Dad to an incredible Non-Verbal girl, Izzy who primarily signs to communicate and it has made such a huge difference to our lives. It has allowed Izzy to express herself and show off her cheekiness to new levels. This has inspired me to change career paths fom Design Engineering, and I wanted to become a part of the hugely welcoming Deaf community, to continue our BSL Journey and be able to give something back as a Wish Granting Champion.
I’m really interested in learning about all of the technology that can create an everlasting positive impact for Deaf children. I’ve recently learnt about the Vibrating Alarm Clocks and am super keen to start showing families of Deaf children how to use them. I can’t wait to meet all the families CSSEF is working with and to making my first Wish come true.”
