Youth Work Week With Brighter Futures

It’s been a busy time at Brighter Futures, and in celebrating Youth Work Week, the activities chosen by the young people have reflected this. There have been sports sessions, and an offsite activity organised by Ellie the youth worker, whose role is supported by funding from The Neumark Foundation. Ellie is greatly developing in her role, thanks to the nurture and support of the Brighter Futures Team.

Youth Work Week

The activities and discussions in the youth sessions have included, the general election, leading to discussions on how young people can influence politics, and there have also been great conversations on the importance of youth work and its impact on young people.

There has been a focus on the 5 ways of well-being in sessions. So far, the young people have learnt something new, by learning the alphabet in British Sign Language, and intentionally learning to take notice, with games like spot the difference. They have also taken part in big group games such as bingo and a pool tournament!

LEARNING BSL

There have been great cooking sessions and really delicious treats have been made, whilst learning new cooking skills. This has included pasta bake, cookies, pancakes, pizza, banana bread and preparing fruit. The children, especially those in year 6, have taken more of a role in serving the snack as well, helping to learn great team working skills.

This month there has also been a link up with the local PCSO officers who have begun visiting in an aim to promote good relationships.

The impact of the funding from The Neumark Foundation to support Ellie’s post is clear and we are delighted to see Ellie’s progress and development at Brighter Futures. Well done!
