Anglesey Community Mental Health Team

As a foundation, we are incredibly proud to support the award winning charity, Youth Shedz, and it is always wonderful to receive updates on the fantastic work they are doing. Youth Shedz is expanding so rapidly, and taking on so many wonderful new projects, it is hard to keep up with the whirlwind positive impact that they are having on so many young people across North Wales, and here is another lovely example from Anglesey.

Youth Shedz Support Worker, Cara, whose position is currently funded by The Neumark Foundation, has been working with Young People on a one-one basis, referred by the Anglesey community Mental Health Team, and has had really positive results. In fact, the results have been so positive that Cara has now been asked to engage with other Young People, referred by the Anglesey Community Mental Health team, but who are based in more rural areas around Llangefni, with the possibility of considering developing another shed in the Llangefni area.

The Anglesey Community Mental Health Team said “Since C has been attending with Youth Shedz, she has developed structure and routine to her week as well as a sense of empowerment.

C has always had a need to belong to ‘something’ or ‘someone’ and working with the Youth Shedz has given her this sense of belonging. I also believe one of the reasons that Youth Shedz has had such a positive impact on C, is the fact that she has been supported by Cara in the past through the HSG project, where Cara had already built a positive working relationship with her through the understanding of proactive working, as well as having the knowledge and skills to adapt her approach to suit the situation at the time.

“C and new referral L are helping Cara with a community outreach project, using VR with a group of older attendees at a closed wellbeing group. They decided they wanted to help people who have barriers to go out due to anxiety, as they have lived experience. They supervised a small group to go on a virtual tour around the Anne Frank House, at the request of the group. It is brilliant to see these Young People go through such a positive change, and then want to give back to support other Young People. We are very proud of Cara and the work that is going on with Anglesey and across North Wales. My goal has always been to have a shed in every town so that we can support as many Young People as possible especially those who are hardest to reach.”

Scott Jenkinson – Founder of Youth Shedz

“The work that Scott, all of the Youth Shedz team, and everyone connecting with Youth Shedz, making this support reach possible really inspires us. It is so fantastic to see the collaborative approach they take to strengthen their reach and support, and lovely to hear the constant requests for expansion of the sheds. We are very proud to support this inspirational organisation.”
