K-os at Dangerpoint

It’s always wonderful to see the work that the charities we support do, so we jumped at the invitation to join year 1 pupils from Wat’s Dyke CP School, Wrexham on their trip to Dangerpoint in Talacre this week.

Chaos at Dangerpoint

Dangerpoint is an educational, activity centre, that has been running approximately 17 years, originally set up by North Wales Police, to improve safety for children and young people in their lives. We have been funding Dangerpoint since March this year, to support the cost to schools in geographical areas across North Wales, not previously able to access support funding, to enable a further 1000 pupils to attend this incredible centre over this year.

Covering a huge range of topics, from safety in the home, where it is known that more accidents involving children and young people happen than anywhere else, to  safety on building sites, railway lines, environmental dangers, recycling, knife crime, diversity, bullying, and many more, Dangerpoint sets the scenes with fantastic, lifelike sets, whilst K-os, the mischievous, alien character, who interacts with visitors, shows the worst choices to make for each scenario, and the Dangerpoint Rangers lead the children through each scenario, educating them about the dangers, choices and consequences using fun and interactive activities to do so, making it a fantastic and memorable experience, and their increased knowledge is even measured through an interactive quiz at the beginning and end of the tour.

This is the youngest age group we have seen taking the tour, and it had been very effectively adjusted to ensure it was age appropriate.

“We are incredibly proud to support this fantastic charity, and help provide opportunities for as many children and young people as possible, from schools across North Wales to access this wonderful, impactful, educational centre. Seeing these year 1 pupils from Wat’s Dyke School, as engaged on the tour as the older children we have met here previously, was brilliant. We know through the evaluations that the centre carries out, the difference this educational opportunity can make to the knowledge of children who attend, and hope that ultimately, through this knowledge enhancement, it will improve the lives and outcomes for children, young people and their families.”

Rebecca Neumark – CEO for The Neumark Foundation

“This funding has been really important as although we are from a good catchment area, we miss out on other funding.”

Teachers from Wat’s Dyke School

“We had lots of fun and I enjoyed sending K-os to the moon by recycling.”

“I liked the quiz and learning about all the dangers around us.”

“K-os was always in trouble, I think I can keep K-os safe now.”
