DangerPoint in Talacre is a unique and interactive experience for children to learn important life skills away from the classroom so that they can find out in a fun and engaging way about hazards and safety. With interactive settings looking at a range of experiences, including home safety, rail travel, buses, roads, sea, shopping and internet safety, there is something for everyone at DangerPoint. It provides young people with the opportunity to gain valuable experiences which promote active learning and enable them to acquire the necessary and important life skills to keep safe.
The Neumark Foundation has supported over 3000 children over the last two years to attend DangerPoint and experience the unique opportunities that the centre provides to learn vital life skills.
Since opening in October 2005, DangerPoint has welcomed over 124,500 visitors and remains the only dedicated safety education centre in Wales. One of the key benefits of DangerPoint’s approach is its effectiveness in information retention. Research has shown that children retain, on average, 80% of the information they learn in interactive and engaging environments which further highlights the effectiveness of the educational delivery.
The Neumark Foundation have recently announced that they have made an award to DangerPoint. This will enable a further 1500 children to attend an educational visit at the centre over the next year, and additionally, it will pay for the transport costs associated with the school visit. Without this funding schools would not be able to access the interactive world of DangerPoint which is so important to allow children to learn vital skills to keep themselves safe.
“The Foundation recognises the important learning that DangerPoint provides for children. We are delighted to be able to make this award to DangerPoint, at a time when many schools simply cannot afford to take children out of school on educational trips. By providing funded places and transport costs, we recognise the valuable impact this will have on children’s learning and their understanding on how to keep themselves safe. DangerPoint is an amazing resource, and we are delighted to be supporting the team to deliver such an important safety message to young people”
Rosalind Williams – Project Funding Manager at The Neumark Foundation
“We are incredibly grateful for the continued funding from the Neumark Foundation, whose generosity has enabled us to provide essential safety education to thousands of children during our partnership. As a charity, this financial support is absolutely vital in helping us keep our doors open to all, especially during the ongoing cost of living crisis.
Cat Harvey-Aldcroft, Deputy Manager at DangerPoint
Thanks to the Neumark Foundation’s support, we can ensure that no child misses out on these life-saving lessons, regardless of their background.”
