As we head into autumn, we’ve been reflecting on a wonderful summer at the Foundation and the exciting projects across North Wales that we’re proud to support. One of the highlights was the Creative Arts Summer School in Denbigh, delivered by The Denbigh Workshop and made possible through funding from The Neumark Foundation.

Over three vibrant weeks, 151 young people from 28 different schools took part, with fully funded places ensuring that every child could join in, regardless of family income. The summer school offered a wide mix of activities, led by a team of 24 tutors and supported by dedicated youth volunteers, many of whom were once participants themselves.
The programme blended creative arts, performance and wellbeing activities with practical support to tackle holiday hunger. Every young person received a healthy packed lunch each day, catering for all dietary needs and helping families through the long school break. Parents described it as “a lifeline,” giving their children not only fun and friendship but a real boost in confidence and happiness.

Young people took part in everything from acting, yoga and circus skills to singing, mindfulness and VR sessions, exploring new skills, building resilience and discovering new passions. For some, it was their first time performing or creating in front of others. For many, it was a week of new friendships and growing independence.
Feedback from families was overwhelmingly positive. Over 80 percent of parents said their child had improved communication and teamwork skills, and 94 percent said their creativity had increased. More than half of this year’s participants were new to The Denbigh Workshop, many referred through schools, young carers’ groups and local networks.

“It’s always amazing to see the difference a creative space can make,” said Tracy Spencer, of The Denbigh Workshop. “We see children arrive on the first morning feeling shy or nervous, and by the end of the week they’re performing, making friends and believing in themselves. The funding from The Neumark Foundation means we can open the door to everyone, and that’s what makes it so special.” Funding from The Neumark Foundation made it possible for The Denbigh Workshop to continue its inclusive, high-quality summer programme, providing a safe, inspiring space where young people can thrive, learn and connect.
“This is exactly the kind of project we love to support, one that brings people together, builds confidence and creates opportunities that last far beyond the summer. Tracy and her team do an incredible job, and it’s clear from the feedback that this work is making a real difference for families in Denbighshire.”
