Professor Saul Becker talks about his 30-year research career supporting the lives of young carers at Eaton Hall Education Conference
On Wednesday 16th March, Professor Saul Becker, world leader in young carer research from Cambridge University, visited Eaton Hall in Cheshire, as part of an event set up by Cheshire Young Carers, to talk to education providers, young carer support charities and other local supporters about his 30-year career in research dedicated to improving the lives of young carers.
Saul is currently leading the largest singular young carer research project, focusing on improving educational outcomes and achievements for young carers, which started in February, and is set to continue over the next three years, working with young carers in schools across Wrexham, Denbighshire and Conwy, funded by The Neumark foundation.
Saul attended with Dr Dawit Tiruneh, the new Neumark Research Associate, also based at Cambridge, who is working with Saul on this piece of research, along with North Wales Young Carers, the North Wales branch of Cheshire Young Carers.
Rebecca Prytherch, CEO of The Neumark Foundation said “It was inspiring to hear Saul, a former young carer himself, talk about his lifelong dedication and passion that has improved the lives of so many young carers. The incredible ground-breaking, worldwide research he has been involved with, has enabled so much change. We are very proud to be funding the North Wales schools-based research project, and hope that through this work, significant improvements can be made to enable better educational outcomes for young carers, not just in North Wales, but through publishing research outcomes, on a national or even international scale. We are also very proud to have Saul as a trustee for The Neumark Foundation, providing us with expert advice and guidance on funding decisions we make on other projects supporting young people across North Wales. We would like to thank Cheshire Young Carers and Professor Saul Becker for an engaging and inspiring evening.”
