With the current Covid-19 crisis, there are still young people struggling as a result of not having the equipment to enable them to undertake online learning at home. Over the last two weeks, The Neumark Foundation, based in North Wales, have been focusing on trying to support Year 10 and 11 pupils across North Wales local authorities, by funding Chromebooks for those without suitable technology.
So far, we at The Neumark Foundation have invested £72,000 to purchase 340 Chromebooks ourselves, for those young people we have identified through the three authorities of Flintshire, Wrexham and Denbighshire who are in need. However, in Denbighshire alone a recent survey identified nearly 2,000 pupils without online access. So the need is urgent. We are looking for organisations and individuals who would like to pledge their support with donations to help the remaining young people that are digitally excluded.
We know the drastic, detrimental effect that lost learning has on these young people and their educational outcomes, and we need to act now.
Each Chromebook costs approximately £200, and so we have set a goal to raise a further £100,000 as quickly as we possibly can.
We have set up a GoFundMe Link for organisations and individuals who would like to add their support.
