Panathlon

At The Neumark Foundation we were delighted to hear from one of our funded project partners, ‘Panathlon’, about the impact that they have been having in the lives of the young people who are attending their sessions. Panathlon, is a national charity which gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs the opportunity to take part in competitive sport.

Since January, 316 children and 25 leaders from across North Wales have taken part in Awareness Days, Multi Skills Days, Ten Pin Bowling, and Boccia. These opportunities for children to take part in sporting activities that are not always available to them are making a positive impact on well-being and the opportunity to try new things.

One school reported that “Our children are still buzzing today, one Mum stopped me at the door and said her son had slept with his medal and has come to school with it on again today, he’s so proud of himself, they all are.”

The sessions which are fully funded for participants, enable children to learn new sports and show leaders how to adapt activities to be fully inclusive.

One teacher said, “I learnt different methods for inclusivity in sport due to the range of games that can be played. I liked the fact I learnt an alternative to traditional games. It was great to take part in a simplified activity that still had a skill and potentially a competitive element. Panathlon gives everybody an opportunity to enjoy sport, and there is so much well-being attached to being part of a team, learning new skills and having fun.”

We understand the benefits of sport and physical activity for all children. Working with Panathlon, we can see the amazing things they are achieving in North Wales. This project ensures that every child is given the opportunity to take part in sporting activities enjoying being with friends, learning new skills and having self-belief. They children taking part are proud of themselves and so are we!”
