Creating Opportunities for Local Children to Stay Healthy, Active and Engaged

Parkfield’s plays an important role in the community, offering safe, welcoming spaces for children aged 5–13 to take part in activities, build friendships and develop new skills. The centre also runs essential initiatives for local residents, such as a community fridge and café, which have become even more vital as rising food and energy costs put additional pressure on families.

The summer holidays can be a particularly challenging time, with many children missing out on free school meals and the social structure of the school day. The new project aims to address these challenges by combining fun, creativity and learning. Over 12 sessions, children will:

  • Take part in outdoor sports and games with new equipment
  • Get creative with activities such as making mood jars and stress balls
  • Learn how to plan, budget and prepare healthy meals
  • Explore mental wellbeing through games, discussions and quizzes

“This summer project will give local children the chance to enjoy activities and experiences that can really boost their wellbeing. It’s about making sure they have positive, healthy and safe opportunities over the holidays, and it’s great to be working with The Neumark Foundation to make that happen.”

Nicci Speed – Youth Worker at Parkfield

The programme will end with a trip to a local farm park, giving children a chance to enjoy the outdoors, learn about animals through hands-on experiences, support their wellbeing, and share a memorable day together as a group. This project reflects The Neumark Foundation’s shared commitment to tackling poverty and disadvantage, promoting wellbeing, and helping communities build a better future.

“Our aim is to support communities in creating lasting change. Parkfield’s is already doing fantastic work, and this project builds on that by providing opportunities for children to be active, learn new skills and feel part of something positive over the summer.”
