Through the summer, the Neumark Foundation funded Charity for Deaf children, CSSEF, has been running summer arts and crafts activity sessions in Deeside, for Deaf children and their families in the area.
I had the pleasure of joining Zeta Lloyd from CSSEF and volunteer, Paula, for their final session on 31st August, and it was fantastic to meet some of the children and families who are really benefitting from the support.
The majority of the work carried out by CSSEF, sits with supporting children and young people in schools. They currently work across Flintshire and Wrexham, providing resources and technology to schools to support Deaf children and young people, through their wish lists, ‘Brightening the lives of Deaf children’, and enabling them to have a much better chance of reaching their potential in an environment that can be really challenging and frightening for them.
To support their work with children and young people in schools, they also facilitate the provision of BSL training for families, and they work in the community to help strengthen local Deaf communities for children through the provision of fun activities for youngsters and their families. They even take Deaf singer, Jayne Fletcher, known as Fletch, who has performed alongside artists like Ronan Keating and Ed Sheeran, into schools to do workshops, to raise awareness for Deaf and hearing children, in order to encourage a more inclusive and supportive environment.
We are incredibly proud to support this amazing charity, who in just less than a year has made a huge impact in a region where there is a real need for a more supportive Deaf community. The support provided by CSSEF has grown so much that they have taken on locally based Zeta Lloyd to continue the growth of their service.
We look forward to updating you very soon on more of their activities, but if you’d like to find out more about CSSEF, their website is http://www.cssef.org.uk
